California
There are three ways to obtain your marriage license on the California
side of Lake Tahoe.
1. If you are a resident of California,
you may bring a California License with you (must be a Public License).
2. You may obtain a license from the
El Dorado County Clerk's Office in South Lake Tahoe at 3368 Lake Tahoe
Blvd. Suite 108 in the El Dorado Center. Phone: 530-573-3409. The cost
for the Public License is $60.
3. You may obtain a California Confidential
Marriage License. This is a legal document that can be issued by a Notary.
Most chapels have a Notary on staff, so the Confidential License can be
issued at the chapel. The fee is $73 ($53 for the license and $20 for
the Notary). A valid driver's license, passport, Military or State ID
is required. For $37, a civil ceremony can be performed at the County
Clerk's Office.
But an appointment must be made first.
